SYCAMORE LAUNDRY CLAPHAM WICKER BASKET
A wonderful wicker and bamboo laundry basket of significant quality in fantastic condition comes with heaps of history. With its leather straps in useable condition it measures 72cm wide, 34cm high and 50 cm deep. It would have been used to deliver washed and iron clothing which would have been trasnported by horse and cart back to its owner.
Sycamore House in Clapham Old Town was built in 1787 by Benjamin Bentley. It only remained a residential dwelling for fifty or so years befroe become a school and then a Working Men's Club in 1868 and then back to a Reformatory until in 1898 it became a laundry.
Sycamore House remained a laundry for almost a centry until in 1994 it was returned to its original purpose as a home.
